Hey all, I have a computer again! (Some of you have already seen me announce this on about twenty other media, sorry!) I have all these ambitions on things to catch up on when my New Year holiday starts next Thursday; hopefully some of them will be accomplished! This includes shaking TIP to see what falls out of the dusty box -- thanks for everyone's patience for the slight pause in projects for the last half year.

Rehearsals for Edward VIII started today, and I had actually managed to forget until I came home to a white envelope with a white senjafuda in my mailbox just now. And I let out a guilty sigh, because part of me had suspected as a ken-10 next spring that Rizu-chan might be retiring soon and I admit to selfishly having hoped she might do it with Kiriyan so that I would be there for her graduation. Isshiki Ruka, Aoki Izumi, and Ayahoshi Rion are other newly announced upperclassmen graduates that don't surprise me, although I will miss all of them. I'm glad Ruka and Morie will be in Kiriyan's dinner show. I'm a bit surprised Ayahoshi isn't in either dinner show, though. Hm. And Takamura Yuuki leaving makes me a bit sad, as I'm surprised. Kana Mikari is one of those musumeyaku that I have to admit tends to fall through the cracks for me.

Why did no one tell me how much dancing was in "SAUDADE"? I would have watched it sooner. XD

I liked the beginning of the first act a lot, although I think to be properly enjoyed you also should be sure to have at least two people so that you can heckle it loudly and make each other laugh. *grin* For me it lagged towards the end of the first act, because I'm not a huge fan of jazz dance.

The first act was nearly a solid block of DANCE♥

Act two had the skit and then the inevitable Asako Latin Section. The skit was fun and had some catchy songs, but also a lot of philosophizing and everything tied up neatly. Asako singing "Fever" was.... sexy. (The Sky Stage version was actually simply the DVD, rather than the usual senshuuraku recording. They put all of the cut music/vocals back in, but didn't modify the text on the screen that tells you the vocals are cut, which made me blink a few times.)

So, not going to go into any detail here, but still wanted to post something, because I don't remember hearing anything amazing about this show from anyone who saw it and I think it's actually quite a lot of fun. A ton of dancing, and also a lot of chances for people like Atsuki Renka and Isshiki Ruka and everyone in the small cast to shine. And kumichou did two lifts in a row♥

The New Sounds band was also in top form, and I liked a lot of the arrangements of familiar songs. And Asako sang "Kuroi Washi" in a black tailcoat and my life was complete. Love that song!

Morie was so happy with the Tanabata event. :3 She still had this huge grin on her face as she walked by us.

Ruutaaaaaa~n♥ So stylish. Such awesome hats. So adorably cute, even when she kills us because we have to stay crouched while she talks to her club forever. ;)

Tamakichi is the secret mini-love of 70% of Masaki-kai, ever since Hamlet!!, so we all keep an eye on her. Usually she walks around the corner of Theater Crea with her daihyou after demachi, and then they stop to talk for TWENTY MINUTES. And then sometimes (usually) she'll take all of her bags and wave her daihyou off. SO CUTE. *ADORE*

Karan-chan always, always says "otsukaresama deshita" and nods her head to every fan club as she walks by at irimachi and demachi. It is incredibly cute.

I got another huge grin from Ruka-san's daihyou. It's my hobby (whenever I see her waiting for Ruka-san's taxi when I'm coming up or heading back down into the subway) to give her a big smile and a "good morning", and she always beams back at me. :D

Marimo was wearing capri-pants on Tanabata event day, and she was so slim and has such dancer legs and SO COOL. How so cool, Marimo, how so cool? I think everyone has a semi-otokoyaku-ish type crush on her. (^^; Also, I thought maybe it was just my imagination, but after talking to E she said the exact same thing without me even mentioning it, so I know it wasn't just me..... Marimo's singing really went down-hill in Tokyo. I was pretty sad about it and I'm not sure if it's just that her voice was tired or that she exhausted herself being first in and last out every day, or if she inexplicably changed her technique, but... :(

When I saw the show the day before raku, everyone' voices were giving out. Kiriyan had no volume left, although she was careful not to miss any notes, and Mirio's voice was giving out just like Masaki's had been doing in Mura. It's a hard show and I'm glad it's over, for their sakes.

On raku, kumichou walked by with this absolutely ENORMOUS, self-satisfied smirk on her face. :3 Someone was very pleased with getting her troupe through this show.

Speaking of raku, the taidansha were beautiful. The Chauvelin Plurality ended up Chanter-side with Kiriyan's club, so we were right behind the taidansha's supporters. It was.... a very odd feeling, being there. I don't think I'm ever going to get used to this getting promoted business, even if we are ken-10.

I think I've talked the Pimp to death, but let me know if there's anything I've missed that you'd like to know about. Other than that, time to start thinking about gypsies! *GLEE*

Touyan, Ahi & Masao got together for dinner *AGAIN* this week♥ Isshiki Ruka was with them this time, and they celebrated her birthday a few days early♥

... Now I see why Masaki was in such a good mood that morning -- she had a party to look forward to. ;)

What I Thought:

Just want to get my first impressions down before I see it again, so this'll be quick.

This is Tsukigumi. The suit troupe. The gangster troupe. The western musical troupe. The troupe of ridiculously hot tangos. The troupe that I fell in love with. All of the things that I love about Daichi Mao's troupe, and Tsurugi Miyuki's troupe, and Amami Yuuki's troupe, and Kuze Seika's troupe, and Tsubasa Makoto's troupe, and Shibuki Jun's troupe, and Sena Jun's troupe. The people might be completely different, but something intrinsically Tsukigumi is always there. That's why--although of course I'm sad about the retirements!--I'm not devastated. It will still be Tsukigumi♥

What I Thought:

When Hankyu announced that there would be no new top musumeyaku for Moon Troupe for a while, they said that they were going to use the opportunity to showcase the talents of a variety of musumeyaku in the troupe. I think a lot of people were skeptical, but... this show convinced me they weren't entirely blowing hot air. I thought it was a very interesting (and wildly different) adaption of the Ukihashi Chapters of Genji, and I thought Ono-sensei did a marvelous job writing in a lot of largeish musumeyaku parts: Kosaishou no Kimi, Ukifune, Onna Ichi no Miya, Kobai no Naka no Kimi..... As a huge fan of Hanase Mizuka and Shirosaki Ai, I was really happy with it.♥

Okay, Jen, great, you say, but what about the show? We know you hate Takarazuka Genji adaptions, and you always fall asleep in the middle of Asaki Yume Mishi.

So, yes. I worried I wouldn't love it, and then I worried I'd only love it because of who was in it, but.... I don't think that's the case at all. I loved it as itself -- I really rather cool story that was staged beautifully with enough dancing in the aisles to keep you awake between all of the angst. Also, political plotting.♥ You win, Ono-sensei!

(The revue will have to wait a bit... this took me three hours. ^^;;)

Where to even begin? Well, I suppose I'll do this one a bit like I did MAHOROBA. This means it's going to be full of spoilers, so I'd avoid it if you want a surprise when you first watch it.

I know they say that original shows in Takarazuka are written with the cast in mind, but I think that's more apparent for some shows than for others, and probably some playwrights are better at it than others. This show was perfect for this cast, particularly for Asako, Mihoko, and Kiriyan. Mihoko! I didn't really go into her role much in the summary, but her voice was low and not hoarse exactly, but a little rough. And all of her songs tended to be in a lower range than usual as well, and I think it must have been her natural range because it was gorgeous. There weren't a lot of solos in this show, and when there were solos, they were often little scraps of them (for Kiriyan and Mihoko). There were several duets, though, and lots of really, really catchy group numbers. And all of the songs were actually right for the voices of the 'siennes singing them. Oh, I love when they do that.

The stage work was completely fun -- great lighting and lots of uses of all the mechanics (rotating stage, trap doors, etc.). I loved the sets, particularly what they did with the stairs.

The costumes weren't very elaborate, but I liked Asako's black velvet suit and Ai-chan's green dress in particular. And Eri's leather jacket outfit and Yuuhi's vest and combat boots and open-necked shirt and... yeah. .....Ahi's outfit needs to be seen to be believed.
