I keep meaning to wait until I have time to watch it again and double-check my summary, but at this rate it's never going to happen, so... from memory, from a long time ago... ^^;
Summary:
Miyamoto Musashi is a coward. He runs from his destined fight with Sasaki Kojirou. Exhausted, he sleeps, only to wake up in a strange new world. Musashi has traveled into the present day! Now he finds himself adopted by a strange bunch of misfits at the local high school he has appeared in. One is Suuko, the head of the school's kendo team. She's a bit of a tom boy, but she's also in love with the tales of Musashi's cleverness and bravery as one of Japan's finest swordsmen. She lends Musashi a book about himself, and he's flabbergasted to see how he is portrayed. Suuko's homeroom teacher is Mrs. Miho, a new transfer teacher who wants to be Best Friends with all of her students. Of course, this kind of sweet, clueless teacher is soon eaten alive. Juri is a Yankee girl, complete with ankle-length skirts and foul attitude. She tends to skip school more often than she shows up.
The show focuses on the drama as Suuko's team gets ready to face off against a rival high school. Their leader is Koujirou, a rather flamboyant young man who loves himself more than anything else, and the crowd of fainting young men who follow him around in admiration doesn't deflate his ego at all. He has his mind set on wooing Suuko, and he gets her to agree to date him if his team beats hers in the upcoming competition. Suuko begs Musashi to help whip her geeky teammates into shape. He agrees reluctantly, but the problem is.... he doesn't know how to fight either, and he's a coward. Of course, he can't tell them that... Juri and Musashi eventually buck each other up, promising to face their fears together.
The day of the competition arrives... who will win?
What I Thought:
Loved it. Of all the Young Bloods, this one has my favorite first act. I am a complete sucker for silly high school dramas, and this one was a great spoof. And as much as I like Sonoka, I have to say that Hinata San completely and absolutely stole the show. Her Koujirou-kun with his mix of Englishisms and odd Japanese, self-love, crowd of swooning admirers, and acted-out delusional daydreams.... *g* Other things I loved about this show were the amount of female roles, compared to the other Young Bloods. Suuko and Juri were both integral to the story, and not in a romantic way. Although, of course, what's a time-traveling story without a little romance? I admit, the ending was actually touching. Put that on top of a completely silly show, and I have to take off my cap to Saitou-S for this one.
On the other hand, I really didn't care much for the second act. The costume choices, in particular, were horrifying. I will say, however, that I absolutely and completely love the pair dance. Those lifts! ♥__♥
