2006, Kozuki Wataru Dancing Recital

[ TakaWiki ] [ TCA Shop ]

This show, how have I not done this one either? *fail* I love this show! Whenever I'm in a bad mood, I pull it out and watch the first act, and I'm smiling again.

The first act is all jeans and T-shirts for the otokoyaku, and leg warmers and blinding colors for the musumeyaku. And I love it. Otokoyaku in jeans are yum. Lots of fun dance here, and quite a few contemporary Japanese pop songs. I will be fair to Hizuki Hana and say she was cute and talented, but I'm still sad that it wasn't Shirahane Yuri paired with Wataru. And of course, there is so much love for the Hoshigumi otokoyaku: Takao Rio, Yuuho Satoru, Ooma Miran, Ayami Haya, Ayaka Rei, Kazuki Shin, Yumeno Seika, and Tsurumi Mayuu. The musumeyaku too, of course, but I have especial love for Takao and Ooma and Yuuho and Yumeno. <3

Act two is also excellent, although it opens with costumes so horrendous I tend to skip over the first few numbers. But then the fedoras, suits, slinky dresses, and chairs come out. <3<3 And look, it's Ayaka Rei in a dress again!

Takarazuka should do more dance recitals. This is the strength of most of these women; why not take advantage of it? Dinner shows and concerts are all well and good, but let's be honest -- even the talented vocalists aren't usually outstanding when compared to talented, trained women singing in their natural range. But dance? Most of these women have been studying ballet since they could walk. And Wataru's dance? Unbeatable. Her energy, her smiles, her aura really fill up and take over a stage.

So, yes. If you love dance, of all kinds and all flavors, then I highly, highly, highly recommend this DVD. A bit of non-traditional zuka in the first act, and then so many traditional zuka revue cliches in the second you might not survive it. ;) Check out the TCA page for the video clip.

You can add me to the list of people who uses that first act to cure bad moods. I actually "blame" that show for turning me into a Hoshigumi-fan. I think you also get Ooma Miran in a dress.

I would love more Takarazuka dance recitals but I suspect that Dinner shows are much cheaper to produce.

Unfortunately, I bet you're right. :/

XD I think I'd prefer Mami dinner shows over Mami dance recitals. :P

Ehehe. Well, Mami....

But just imagine if her dance recitals were along the lines of BMB?

(Mami danced in BMB??)

XD Well, ok, I'll skip a Mami dinner show for a Mami/Rika dance recital any day. :P

OH? XD

When did she say that... in that interview?

In that interview... the one in the hair parlor. XD She mentioned how Mami couldn't dance, or sing, or act, and then she used BMB (not by name, I don't think, but she was definitely referring to "Misunderstood") as an example.... *g*

I'd so love to have this show... Been dying to see it since it was out.

Guess I know what's going to make the top of my to-buy list when I'm finally in Japan ;)

I'd love to hear what you think of it, if you do get it! I haven't heard of anyone not falling in love with it. ;)

Ah this is the one DVD I'm anticipating getting sometime next year. LOL love Wataru dancing-probably the most nostalgic thing about the original Soragumi troupe for me. Recently, my new-found love and admiration for Hizuki Hana compels me to get this. Thanks for the recommendation.
