ekusudei: (Asako and Fuu-chan)
All right, I realize that I'm the last person on the planet to watch Rome at Dawn/Les Bijoux Brillants, but give a poor girl a break. My copy came today (along with the 2006 Otome I'd been meaning to get for months), and can I just say that the booklet is (literally) the shiniest I've come across so far?

A real review later when I have time, but I just want to note that I'm becoming slightly worried for Asako. I love her dearly, but lately it seems like if she's not in a comedy role she gets stuck in one of two modes: a) "I am angsting. See me angst. My brow is furrowed and I am staring off into space in agony. Or maybe indigestion." and b) "This is my smoldering look. It goes with my sexy little shoulder move. Please observe me smolder. Oh dear, you've passed out." Please note that this isn't a complaint, as I love Asako on all levels and her smoldering look gets me every time, but.... Yes, I'm very glad she'll be doing a comedy next. Lucia, we need to remember to either bring opera glasses or 10000 yen for the rental deposit. Do we really want to miss her goofy facial expressions?

Also, who on earth thought it was a good idea to let Hayama-sensei choreograph Romans? What looks good in a tux looks ridiculous in a toga.....

Also, also, Moon Troupe has suddenly quadrupled its hotness factor. I don't think my heart can take it.

Tonight's prize for coolness goes to Yukigumi's Ai Youko, whose father is Nosaka Akiyuki, and whose mother and sister were also both seito.

I'm finding all kinds of cool parents and siblings lurking in these 'siennes lives....

What I Thought:

I criticize what I love. I figured I'd better get this up quickly, before people got the wrong idea from last night's post. ;)

Yes, I think I'm one of the rare few who actually.... really liked this show. Sure, it has it's flaws, but let's be honest, most shows do. Despite the lack of action, the songs grew on me as the show went on. I think "Ai Sareta" will be in my head for weeks now. I loved the hair choices for this show, particularly Kiriyan's complicated 'do (how many hair pins did that poor woman use?). The Roman costumes were an enormous improvement over the ones for Mariko's sayonara show in '98 (Emperor), so I decided to forgive them the white boots, button-sleeves, and odd toga color choices. And I have this soft spot for Zuka doing really simple stage sets. Hayama-sensei's choreography for the musical was rather hit-and-miss, though as usual it made the revue show perfect.

But Jen's top three reason's for loving this show?
3) It's Roman! (I studied Latin for six years in junior high and high school.)
2) Yoshizaki Eri playing Asako's mother and Tom's lover.
1) Yuuhi! Yuuhi everywhere! (In a complete turn-around from the usual pattern, Yuuhi had more stage time and singing than Kiriyan. Well, it was close, anyway.)

ExpandSo, the cast was.... )

Les Bijoux Brillants

I thoroughly approved of this one. Mmm, Tom tangoing with Natsukawa-san. Dark!Yuuhi in a pony-tail. Playing Spot-the-Masaki. Asako in a very hot shredded number with chains. Kiriyan in a turban.

Tom as etoile was... bizarre. But I can go with it. Of course, I followed this show with my nine-billionth viewing of BaraFuu, and no one can beat Aria's etoile.

And, lastly, as [livejournal.com profile] wao_wao pointed out... the costumes from the poster appear to have gone missing. I guess they decided not to use them. This always strikes me as amusing. It's like Rika's costume in Kuroi Hitomi: the one in the poster never shows up in the show.

*plays with her new Otome*

I am very proud to announce that Ryuu Masaki has grown a whole centimeter since the 2003 Otome!

Oh, and Lucia, Anna Jun has a line of jewelry she designed.
